Limpopo cop arrested... again
A police officer, who was acquitted of the murder of a Nigerian man two years ago, is in hot water again.
This time the lieutenant colonel from Polokwane is accused of assisting a fellow police officer who is on trial for rape.
He was arrested on Thursday by the Hawks. A team from the unit searched his house and arrested him for intimidation and defeating the ends of justice.
Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi said the officer allegedly intimidated a witness in court.
"According to statements contained in the docket the suspect was in police uniform when he intimidated the state witness.
"Members of the public... witnessed a man in police uniform in the gallery intimidating the witness while testifying in a case of rape and corruption where a SAPS member was the accused person."
Mulaudzi said the witness reported the alleged intimidation to the presiding officer while court proceedings were in progress.
The officer was among five people arrested in 2013 for the death of a Nigerian man who was attacked by police after they found him while searching for robbery suspects. He was acquitted.
He is expected to appear at the Seshego Magistrate's Court on Friday.
