Okowa Awaits Fate As Appeal Court Judgement To Be Delivered In Abuja

The Court of Ap­peal Division in Abuja will today deliver judgment in an appeal lodged by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Olorogun O’tega Emer­hor (APC) against the judgment of the Delta Governorship State Elec­tion Petition Tribunal, which declared Dr If­eanyi Okowa of the Peo­ples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the governorship poll.

The Court of Appeal Division in Benin, Edo State had on December 17, Thursday, reserved judgment on the appeal till a date to be communicated to parties in the suit.

Observers stunned when they were notified by the authorities of the appel­late court that judgment in the appeal was to be now delivered in Abuja, the headquarters of the court.

The source disclosed that the appellate court authorities cited security concerns as reason for the relocation of the ap­peal to Abuja.

Appeal Court Reserves Judgment in Delta Gov Election Suit

The Appeal Court sitting in Benin, Edo State has reserved judgment in the appeal challenging the ruling of the Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, Asaba, which upheld the declaration of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa of the People’s Democratic Party as winner of the April 11 governorship poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Not satisfied with the decision of the October 26 ruling of the tribunal in Asaba, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, O’tega Emerhor, and the All Progressives Congress had through their counsel, Chief Thompson Okpoko SAN, approached the Appeal Court to set aside the tribunal’s judgment and order a rerun election in the state.

Appeal Court Adopts Briefs, Reserves Judgement

The Appeal Court sitting in Benin on Wednesday reserved ruling in the appeal challenging the judgment of the Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

The tribunal had on October 26th upheld the declaration of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the April 11 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
