The Cross River state governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, has said he married his wife Lynda as a virgin. Ayade made the disclosure in Calabar while delivering a lecture on the HIV/AIDS scourge to mark the 2016 World Aids Day. 

He said the greatest gift any woman could possibly hand to her husband was to present her body as a virgin to him. In his words, Ayade said,

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) has distributed 500,000 units of condom and conducted free HIV tests across different locations of Abuja to mark the International Condom Day (ICD) and Valentine's Day, the Abuja coordinator of the group, Kema Onu, has said.

The event tagged "Wrap Your Love: Play Safe, Stay Safe" involves distribution of condom accompanied by free instant HIV tests and AIDS awareness activities.

National Agency for the Control of Aids (NACA), says Kwara is one of the states with lowest rate of HIV infection in the country. NACA Chief Program Officer, Mr Tajudeen Arowolo stated this at the opening of Four-day Free Medical Outreach organised by the agency at Oja Tuntun, Boboko in Ilorin on Sunday.

Arowolo said that North Central geo political zone of the country was reputed to be the most endemic with the highest number of recorded cases of HIV. "This is because of the high cases recorded in Benue, Plateau and Nasarawa states as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). "Out of the states in North Central, Kwara has the lowest rate of HIV cases and one of the lowest in the entire country", Arowolo said.

The Federal Government in collaboration with other partners has launched a new project to boost and strengthen services against HIV/AIDS prevalence in the country.

The two year project tagged "Strengthening HIV/AIDS Service Delivery through Human Resources for Health (HRH) Systems in Nigeria" will be implemented by CapacityPlus, a USAID funded project implemented by IntraHealth in 29 countries.

Launching the project on Sunday in Abuja, Permanent Secretary, of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Amina Shamaki said it will respond adequately to 'human resource for health implications' of the national health sector reforms.

Represented by the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics of the ministry, Dr Ngozi Azodoh , he said this includes addressing those priority interventions required to be strengthened towards achieving the health Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the realization of the Universal Health Coverage through improved health indices.
