The Cross River state governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, has said he married his wife Lynda as a virgin. Ayade made the disclosure in Calabar while delivering a lecture on the HIV/AIDS scourge to mark the 2016 World Aids Day. 

He said the greatest gift any woman could possibly hand to her husband was to present her body as a virgin to him. In his words, Ayade said,

One time Peoples Democratic Party chairman in Akwa Ibom state, Chief Otu Ita-Toyo has accused the immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, of deviating from the ‘power sharing’ arrangement which was initiated by the state’s traditional chiefs in 1989, by imposing Udom Emmanuel as governor.

Alleging that Akpabio destroyed the arrangement that brought peace to Akwa Ibom, he faulted the decision of the present Senate Minority Leader to pick his successor from the Onna Local Government Area which had produced a governor before.

The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja, Tuesday, invalidated the election of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Deputy Speaker, Effiong Bassey.

The court also ordered for a fresh poll within 90 days.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had announced Bassey of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP winner of Oron/Udung Uko state constituency.

Akwa Ibom Elders Seek Probe Into Election Petitions Judgments

The Akwa Ibom State Elders have called for probe into what they described as contradictory judgements in the election petitions.

In a statement, they expressed concerns over “the clear cases of miscarriage of justice in nearly all of the decided cases so far.”

The statement was signed by leaders of the Uyo Elders Forum, Otuekong Jackson Udoh, Obong Rita Akpan,former minister, Dr Ime Okopido, former minister and Professor Okon Eminue, former chairman, Governing council of Akwa Ibom State University.
