Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has axed no fewer than 16 teachers at Elo High School, Ayetoro Ekiti, for allegedly using their pupils as labourers on their farms during school hours.

Fayose gave the directive in Ado Ekiti while receiving the report of a team led by the Deputy Governor, Dr Kolapo Olusola, that went to the school for a preliminary investigation.

Some Niger Delta youths, under the aegis of Youth Coalition Force for Niger Delta, said they have petitioned the National Assembly over an alleged plan by the Federal Government to cancel the Nigerian Maritime University, sited at Okerenkoko, in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.

The move, according to the group, was in reaction to a recent statement credited to the Minister for Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, that there was a plan to scrap the Nigerian Maritime University.

Lagos (Lagos State) – Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), says the backlog of certificates in the institution will be resolved within four months.

He said in Lagos on Wednesday that a task force would be set up to resolve the issue of backlog of certificates at the university’s External System.

According to him, the management is aware of the problems in the system and is making all efforts to resolving them.

South Africa President Jacob Zuma.

"South Africans cannot believe that a man who never went to school is the President and that is the reason why he must be attacked 24/7…" President Jacob Zuma said on Friday.

Speaking in his capacity as the patron of the Jacob Zuma Foundation at the Dube House official residence in Morningside, where he was bidding farewell to 19 students going to study at the American University of Nigeria, in Nigeria, Zuma said being poor was one of the reasons why he decided to start the foundation.
