The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has condemned the abduction of 72-year-old foster father of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Inegite Jonathan.

Chief Inegite was first kidnapped from his home in Otueke in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State in February 2015 at the end of Jonathan’s tenure.

Armed men on Monday abducted the Director of Centre for Continuing Education, Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Port Harcourt, Professor M.E. Ogburie.

Prof. Ogburie was abducted by the gunmen in Elele axis of the state, Daily Trust reports.

The victim’s abduction occurred less than 72 hours after he buried his late father in his village.

Nigeria's president Muhammadu Buhari has ordered a new investigation into the kidnapping of 219 schoolgirls by Islamist group Boko Haram in April 2014 from the town of Chibok, the presidency said on Thursday.

A statement said a panel would be announced soon by the National Security Adviser. The decision comes after parents of the girls and the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) movement marched to the presidential villa to demand a meeting with Buhari earlier on Thursday.

"I assure you that I go to bed and wake up every day with the Chibok girls on my mind," Buhari was quoted as saying in the statement after meeting some of the marchers.

The Cross River State Police Command on Wednesday re-united 11-year-old Felicia Destiny, who was abducted five years ago, with her parents.

Destiny was abducted in January, 2011 at Okpekpe in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo state by a native doctor, Emmanuel Akpan-Okon.

PUNCH Metro had exclusively reported on November 26, 2015 that Akpan-Okon also abducted another girl, Esther Augustine Wisdom (11), from Onitsha in Anambra State and turned the kids into sex slaves.

The kids were rescued on November 16, 2015, in Akamkpa, Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State based on a tip off.

Abductors of Mrs Queen Eyetan Egbedi, 73, mother of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s Senior Special Assistant on Agriculture, Julius Egbedi, yesterday demand a ransom of N35m.

She was kidnapped at about 11pm on Sunday December 27 at her country home in Ituru-Elume.

The kidnappers, according to Vanguard, came in a Jetta car while another said they came in an Audi 80 car, parked at a distance of about a hundred yards and walked to the house, dragged her away into the car and sped off that night.

A crack team of police officers in Imo State command have arrested a three – man gang of suspected kidnappers who allegedly abducted, murdered and buried a 63 year- old-woman, Mrs Ogor Omereji, after collecting ransom of N500,000 from the family members of the victim.

Incidentally, the abductors were the nephews of the deceased.

According to the commissioner of police in the state, Mr Taiwo Lakanu, who spoke with journalists after the body of the deceased was exhumed in a forest in Awara, Ohaji/Egbema local council of the state, said the suspects had committed the crime on September 26, when the late Omereji had gone to her in the village, adding that she probably may have been abducted because her children were rich.

The abductors of one 63-year-old Ogo Omereji who was kidnapped and eventually buried alive, have been apprehended by the Imo State Police Command.

It will be recalled that the deceased was abducted and buried alive in a shallow grave by her abductors who polices sources revealed upon apprehension, were her nephews: Gift Emeka (26), Sunday Uchenna (28) and Emeka Chinedu (27).

The family of the victim, who was reportedly abducted on her farm on September 26 by the three-man kidnap syndicate, was said to have paid N500, 000 to the kidnappers who eventually killed the victim on noticing that the victim may have identified them.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed, said the planned abduction is in line with the terrorists' new modus operandi of focusing on soft targets. It will be recalled that President Buhari made defeating Boko Haram one of his administration’s top priorities, even issuing a three month deadline for their total defeat.
