Senator Ibn N'Allah, Deputy Senate Leader was the senator who raised the motion in the senate to quash the proposed data tariff hike.

But the irony is this same senator is one who, months back, proposed a bill to censor social media in Nigeria.

The President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, has promised that his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal will not interrupt Senate proceedings, a statement said in Abuja on Monday.

The statement was issued by Saraki’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Yusuph Olaniyonu.

A group known as the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, has charged the Senate President, Bukola Saraki not to succumb to any form intimidation by stepping down from his position.

Chairman of the group, Comrade Shehu Usman in a statement issued in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital yesterday alleged that Saraki’s trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, was politically motivated by his opponents who were envious of his rising profile.

The Senate will expunge Section 4 of the Anti-Frivolous Petitions Bill, popularly known as ‘Anti-Social Media Bill,’ to give the media the freedom it deserved, the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has said.

Senate Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions has recommended the suspension of Senator Kabiru Marafa (APC, Zamfara Central) over his verbal attack on the national assembly.

Marafa had openly backed the comment by former President Olusegun Obasanjo that the nation’s legislature was corrupt.

The Senator representing Zamfara Central, Senator Kabiru Marafa, has dragged the Senate to court over plan to sanction him by the upper chamber for alleged unethical remarks.

Marafa asked the court to halt his trial by the Senate Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions Committee.

In a letter to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and dated February 18, 2016, Marafa drew the Senate’s attention to a case pending before an Abuja High Court against the alleged illegal constitution of 65 Senate Committees.
