Foreign Airlines to Sack 2,000 Nigerian Workers

The National Union of Air Transport Employees ,NUATE, has revealed that foreign airlines plan to sack about two thousand (2,000) Nigerian workers due to what they claimed is their inability to transfer their earnings to their respective home countries to meet operational costs in accordance with international rules because of new Central Bank of Nigeria , CBN, policy on forex and fund transfer.

Abaji Communities Want Bridge Across River Gurara

Residents of six riverine communities in Abaji Area Council, Abuja, have appealed to the chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, to liaise with the FCT Administration on the construction of a bridge across the River Gurara when elected into office.

Central Bank Governor Mr. Godwin Emefiele has said over $20billion is idle in domiciliary account of private individuals at a time when the country is facing foreign exchange crisis.

Emefiele's comment was made at a session of the joint committee on appropriation of the National Assembly yesterday.

Nigeria Earns N3.6 Trillion From Oil in 11 Months

Nigeria earned about N3.549 trillion from the oil and gas sector in eleven months, between January and November 2015, according to data obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

In an analysis of receipts in the Federation Account, the CBN, in its Monthly Economic for November 2015, said oil revenue accounted for 54.73

The Naira appreciated by N20 on Monday, exchanging for N370 to the dollar at the parallel market. The Naira sold at N390 to one dollar on Feb 19. However, it closed at N199.50 to the dollar as the official bank rate. 

 

Electricity Tariff Hike - Court Rule On NERC Application for Stay of Proceedings Feb 22

 

Justice Mohammed Idris of a Federal High Court in Lagos will on February 22, decide whether or not to stay further proceedings in a suit instituted by a lawyer, Toluwani Adebiyi against the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), over the recent hike in electricity tariff.

NERC had filed the application for stay of proceedings pending the hearing and determination of its appeal against two previous rulings delivered by the judge.

Oil Price Stability High On Agenda As Buhari Visits Saudi Arabia, Qatar

President Muhammadu Buhari will begin a week-long official visit to Saudi Arabia and Qatar on Feb. 22, a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said on Sunday in Abuja.

The statement also said that the President would first fly to Riyadyh for talks on Tuesday with King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and senior officials of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Some motorists plying the Benin-Okene highway have called for its urgent repair to reduce accidents and loss of lives on the road.

The motorists told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin that aside accidents caused by its poor state, some criminals took advantage of the bad portions of the road to rob travelers.
