Former chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, has disclosed that their ‘political romance’ with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last presidential election, did not yield the party any kobo.

The party chieftain was reacting to the reports that some other political parties including the Social Democratic Party, SDP and Accord Party, collected N100 million each to support the PDP during the presidential election.

According to him, nobody collected a kobo on behalf of APGA for the support given the PDP in the last presidential election.

Speaking to newsmen in Lagos, Umeh, the party’s senatorial candidate in the forthcoming Anambra Central re-run election ruled out the participation of the immediate past senator, Uche Ekwunife in the election, noting that she cannot participate in the same election on the platform of two different political parties.

Ikpeazu

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) filed a notice of appeal against last Thursday’s decision of the Appeal Court in Owerri, Imo State sacking him from office.

The court’s panel, led by Justice Oyebisi had, in its judgment, declared Alex Otti of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the winner of the election held on April 11 last year. It held that Otti scored the highest valid votes of 164,332 as against 114,444 scored by Ikpeazu.

The court held that there were established cases of over-voting and allocation of votes in favour of the PDP candidate in three Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Isi-Alangwa, Osisioma and Obingwa and proceeded to void elections in the three LGAs.

In a notice of appeal filed Monday at the Supreme Court, Ikpeazu and PDP are praying ‎ the apex court to among others, set aside the Appeal Court’sjudgment on the ground that neither Otti nor his party called credible and cogent evidence in support of their petition challenging Ikpeazu’s victory. ‎

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that if elections are conducted ten times in the state, candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will still emerge victorious because of the commitment of the party to the wellbeing of the people.

He further declared that the people are waiting for the total deployment of card readers, saying that the defeated APC in Rivers State will not win any unit because the APC and her sponsors had since betrayed the people.

Addressing a cross section of Rivers people at the state’s New Year Banquet in Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday night, Governor Wike said: “If elections are conducted ten times in Rivers State, PDP will win.

“We are waiting for the card reader, but let me see which unit they (APC) will win”.

In his essay titled “#Buharigate: As the Limit of Obstructionist Politics”, that was widely published in the media recently, Mr Garba Shehu, one of the president’s spokespersons, further confirmed what many Nigerians from all political divides have always known about President Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its “Change” mantra. This continues from the narrative making the rounds in certain quarters about the saintly, austere and frugal lifestyle of Mr President upon which, according to Shehu, the APC rode to power.

Obviously, that essay was written to enlighten those who still harbour some doubt about the well publicised determination of the president to fight corruption and rein in anyone who has been found remotely, directly or indirectly, to have soiled him/herself with the public till. It laid in unmistakeable terms as everyone in the president’s camp has always done, the blame for our nation’s woes squarely on the doorstep of former president Goodluck Jonathan and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), or, at least, that was the agenda the essay set out to further achieve.

However, there are certain truths in the said article which the writer unintentionally unearthed and which also exposed in greater dimension, the lies colourfully, forcefully and consistently paraded as incontrovertible facts over time to little discerning members of the public.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says President Muhammadu Buhari’s responses at the WednesdayPresidential Media Chat were not only embarrassing but also further exposed his undemocratic character as an unrepentant tyrant who has no regard for the rule of law and the self-worth of Nigerian citizens.

The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, Thursday, also said the President confirmed his partisanship in the much-vaunted war against corruption by openly absolving his ministers and party members of corrupt practices.

“Whilst we restate our respect for the person and office of the President, we note that President Buhari bared his true colours to the world as an unrepentant tyrant. Today, the world is no longer in doubt as to who is behind the prevailing recklessness, abuse of rights of citizens and outright flouting of judicial pronouncements by security agencies.

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has admitted that rebuilding the party after its exit from power has been challenging.

The acclaimed largest party in Africa said that since it lost power for the first time since 1999, it has not been easy.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, who told Punch in an interview, however, said some persons had deserted the party because it refused to use derogatory words on the person of President Buhari.

The party chieftain, however said, he was confident that the forces working against the rebuilding of the party within its fold and outside would crumble.

The acting national chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Uche Secondus, has said that the recent comments credited to the national chairman of the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, on plans to “take over” PDP states in the South South, were “unfortunate and disappointing”.

Mr. Secondus said Mr. Oyegun’s “boast” while reacting to the ruling of the Court of Appeal judgment on Rivers state governorship petition in which he said; “I am more confident of winning Akwa-Ibom than any other state in the South-South…we are going to win; that is almost a certainty”, is not only careless but also smacks of impunity and arrogance that has characterized the APC.

PDP faults President Buhari for Collecting SUVs from Dasuki

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has faulted President Muhammadu Buhari for dealing with the office of former National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki (rtd) instead of that of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, regarding his purported collection of exotic cars from the federal government.

This is coming on the heels of denial by Buhari that he did not received the sum of $300,000 and five armoured SUVs from Dasuki, stressing that only two SUVs were sent to him.

But PDP spokesman, Olisa Metuh, who faulted the defence of the president in a statement issued on Wednesday, called for a neutral body to be involved in the anti-graft campaign of the current administration.

A gang up by APC-led FG – PDP insists

The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described yesterday’s Appeal Court ruling which nullified the election of Governor Nyesom Wike as a gang up by the All Progressives Congress, APC-led federal government to rob the incumbent of his mandate.

Chairman of the party in the state, Mr Felix Obuah disclosed this in a statement issued by his media aide, Mr Jerry Needam

He said, “The judgement was an obvious gang-up by the All Progressives Congress, APC led Federal Government against duly elected Governor of the State, Barr. Nyesom Wike and other elected lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, using some Justices of the Court of Appeal as willing tools to invalidate their elections.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State chapter, has described the

Wike 1

Appeal Court judgment, which affirmed the sack of Governor Nyesom Wike, as a birthday gift to the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Felix Obuah.

A statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday by the Publicity Secretary of APC in the state, Mr. Chris Finebone, said: “APC is happy to recognise that yesterday is the birthday of Obuah, We are glad to offer him this Appeal Court judgment as a perfect birthday gift.”

secondusJustice Baba-Yusuf noted that Secondus was from Rivers State, and not North-east geopolitical zone to which the PDP zoned the position.

He gave Secondus 14 days within which to vacate the office and directed that the plaintiff or any other party member worthy of that position should take Secondus’ place.
