The mother of one of the abducted school girls from Babington Macauley Junior Seminary (BMJS), Ikorodu, Lagos State, on Friday, slumped and was taken to an undisclosed hospital.

Deborah Akinayo’s mother, collapse after four days of dry fasting she embarked upon for God to intervene in the abduction of her daughter, the Nation reports.

Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State says the Kidney Care Centre (KCC) in Ondo town has performed 2,571 sessions of dialysis since March 2014.

Mimiko said this on Wednesday in Akure while declaring open a two-day meeting of the State Council on Health, with the theme “Post MDGs: Sustaining Health Gains”.

He said that the centre charges N15,000 per dialysis session which, according to him, is not only the cheapest in Nigeria but half what is charged elsewhere across the country.


The governor said that KCC had established outreach centres in parts of the state to enlighten people on how to prevent kidney diseases.

Celine Dion’s husband and manager, Rene Angelil, has died at his suburban Las Vegas home, authorities said Thursday. He was 73 and had battled throat cancer.

Angelil died in Henderson under the care of a doctor, Clark County Coroner John Fudenberg said.

Angelil died of natural causes, and no further investigation is expected, he said. Fudenberg’s office was notified of the death Thursday.

A post on Dion’s official Facebook page also confirmed the death: “It is with deep sadness that we announce that Ren Anglil, aged 73, died this morning at her residence in Las Vegas after a long and courageous fight against cancer. The family wishes to live the mourning in privacy.”
