A cleaner, Peter Oko, has narrated how he stole N5.675 million from the New Nyanya branch of Diamond Bank, where he worked.

The 29 year-old stated that he took the keys to the vault, stole the money and hid it in a carton, which he took home after the close of work.

The money was however recovered by the police, which said that the suspect had been charged to court.



Oko told Northern City News at the Nasarawa State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department in Lafia that he carried out the theft alone, saying, “As a cleaner, I knew where all the keys were kept.”

The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Niger has won all the 24 Local Government Areas Chairmanship positions in the election conducted on Saturday in the state.

Chairman of the state Independent Electoral Commission, Alhaji Mohammad Abubakar, made the announcement on Sunday in Minna.

He said that the APC won a clear majority of the votes cast in the area councils.

He said that the reports from the commission across the councils indicated a peaceful conduct of election.

Abubakar urged the winners to be magnanimous in victory and work with those that lost.

One person has died from Lassa Fever in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, taking deaths from the virus countrywide to 43, the health minister said on Wednesday.

The victim, the first to succumb to the virus in the capital, died in the National Hospital in central Abuja, a day after being transferred from a private medical centre in the suburb of Kubwa, Isaac Adewole said in a statement from his office.

The 33-year-old from the central city of Jos had recently married and been in Kubwa to visit family, he added.

The Court of Ap­peal Division in Abuja will today deliver judgment in an appeal lodged by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Olorogun O’tega Emer­hor (APC) against the judgment of the Delta Governorship State Elec­tion Petition Tribunal, which declared Dr If­eanyi Okowa of the Peo­ples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the governorship poll.

The Court of Appeal Division in Benin, Edo State had on December 17, Thursday, reserved judgment on the appeal till a date to be communicated to parties in the suit.

Observers stunned when they were notified by the authorities of the appel­late court that judgment in the appeal was to be now delivered in Abuja, the headquarters of the court.

The source disclosed that the appellate court authorities cited security concerns as reason for the relocation of the ap­peal to Abuja.
